Golconda Fort

Golconda Fort

Golconda Fort is a fortified citadel and ruined city located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, which Kakatiya ruler Pratāparudra originally built in the 11th century out of mud walls. This castle is a well-kept national treasure, built about 9 kilometers from the famous Hussain Sagar Lake.

Golconda was built in the 1600s; the fort is known to have protected the beautiful Kohinoor diamond at some point. People say that if you clap your hands at the bottom of the fort, you can hear the echo at the top of the building.

The fortress's classic design, long past, and possible mysteries all add to its charm and bring in a lot of tourists from all over the world. Golconda Fort's stunning beauty can make an impression on anyone in no time. The strong body of the building and the very modern style of architecture can leave any tourist in awe and hypnotized.

Tourists can also see a breathtaking sunset from the fort's highest point. Visitors can also take pictures of the fort's unmatched beauty and take them home as beautiful reminders of their trip to the site.

The sound and light show at Golconda Fort is another great thing to see. This show, put on beautifully in front of an audience in three different languages, will surely be a magical and memorable event.

Golconda Fort's History:

People think that a shepherd found an idol where Golconda Fort is now. Soon after this unique find, the Kakatiyan King heard about it and told people to build a mud fort around this figure.

After the building was finished, people started calling it "Golla Konda," which means "Shepherd's Hill." The Qutb Shahi Dynasty, which ruled in the 1600s, saw the fort rise to prominence. Eventually, the mud fortress grew into a huge building with a wall that went around 10 kilometers around the outside.

In the second half of 1687, the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb took control of the fort. Golconda Fort is now home to many churches and houses, which are sadly in ruins. The defense is known all over the world for its beauty and style.

Architecture of Golconda Fort:

Golconda Fort is built on a 400-foot-high hill and has a beautiful mix of Islamic and Hindu building styles. The fort's walls have 87 bastions and eight gates, each up to 60 feet tall. The princesses and queens slept in large and beautiful rooms inside the fort.

The parade areas, royal rooms, mosques, and halls at Golconda Fort have helped it gain a lot of attention. Fateh Darwaza is the most important of the eight beautiful gates because Aurangzeb's march to victory went through it.

This gate is about 25 feet long and 13 feet wide, made with steel spikes. Balahisar Darwaza, which has a Nawabi building style, is another important gate. Currently, only the entrance on the east side is open for people to visit.

Advice before you go to Golconda Fort:

Golconda Fort is public property, so it is everyone's job to keep it clean and tidy. So, don't leave trash on the fort's grounds.
